In 1989, Egyptian businessman Samih Sawiris founded what became Orascom Development, the leading integrated town developer in the Middle East, with a proven track record of over 18 years of experience and sustainable development. With the initiation of the Andermatt Alpine project in Switzerland, Orascom Development has expanded its operations outside the Middle East into Central Europe. To support this international expansion and to create an attractive basis for further growth, the Group’s headquarters were moved to Switzerland in March 2008. Both, the stock market listing in Switzerland and the new holding structure is expected to yield significant benefits from an operational and financial perspective and will provide better access to capital markets and enhance credibility.
